Ever since I began my venture into the world of video games, one game has secured my purchase with every release. That game is Ridge Racer... Let's rewind to 2011, a lot of buzz was surrounding the playstation vita and one game I was looking forward to was obviously Ridge Racer. Then disaster reared it's ugly head....
Ridge Racer Vita would be released with only three courses and five cars! With extra cars and courses becoming avaliable via DLC, mirrioring the iOS release of the game. Many sleepless nights ensued racking my brain trying to justify why Namco would do something like this. A few months passed with more details being released like a dropping tap, then it hit me... the fantastic team based gameplay of the title more than justifies the decision for this model.
Right, now the nostalgia is out of the way lets get to it! This game is amazing, the level of depth within the game system is astonishing considering the content on the cart. The first time the game is started, the user has to choose what team they would like to race for, once allegiances have been made it starts to get interesting and the game really begins to shine.
The player earns points and money which contribute to the teams score across the world, so someone in Japan who chose the same team as you is working with you to bring your team to the top of the world boards. A skill level is also awarded for racing online, in time attack, ghost battle or spot races. This skill level upgrades the performance of your car such as its highest speed and handling, the money received in racing can be used to add three power ups to your vehicle, a skill tree is used to branch off and discover several power ups such as extended nitro and making it easier to receive nitro in race.
Near functionality is also included in the package allowing the user to upload there best times on a course to near so people in the surrounding area can download it to try and beat it. As well as being able to upload so people can download it using near, it is also possible to upload it in game so people around the world can try and beat your best times.
For early adopters of Ridge Racer, a gold pass is included in the box, or becomes available on the Playstation Store once purchased digitally. This give the player an extra car and extra track making the £15 plunge all the more enjoyable. I hope u enjoy the game, my PSN is Tuet0ne, I look forward to racing with you!
